Progress and A New Year... A message from Dick Hogan, President In 2009, resilience was key during the trying economic times our industry was experiencing. Overcoming the recession is no small feat, and we still have a long way to go. But at Solvay Chemicals, the facts have shown our convictions to be well founded. We have clearly demonstrated our resilience, and the results are positive. Progress has always been a watchword of our philosophy. With worldwide expansion in a wide variety of markets and with the sale of its pharmaceuticals sector, our parent company, Solvay S.A., continues its strategic initiatives. At Solvay Chemicals, we continue to direct our efforts to the challenges of sustainable development and the expansion of our product line and applications. We approach 2010 with a cautious optimism.  Industrial utilization has improved significantly compared to the first part of 2009.  With continued focus on cost control and sustainability projects, we expect to improve our competitive position. For all its uncertainties, we expect 2010 to be a very good year.
